Eight is Great

"Eight is Great!" That's what I loved to tell you when you wore the number 8 jersey on two seasons of your soccer team. But now that phrase has new meaning...

Today, you turn 8, and I seriously can't believe how quickly the time is passing (and how tall you are getting).

In celebration of your 8th birthday...

I give you eight reasons why I love you.

1. you are kind and caring, and did I mention kind? It is a rarity to find a little boy that has such concern for others feelings. You will do well to keep that as a strength, no matter how many ax kicks you do in karate.

2. your smile lights up to the heavens. You giggle in a way I know for sure you are mine, because no one laughs at my silly jokes like you do.

3. you have come such a long way in school (almost to rockstar status) and Daddy and I are so proud because we know it hasn't come easy to you in the past.

4. you bring me a glass of water "just because" you know I like to have my water beside me.

5. you listen to Daddy and I A LOT of the time, which equally stumps and astounds me. I feel like I ought to be on guard for the teenage years to come, when you become a hellraiser (please don't!). If you think you are building up extra credit to ignore me when you are 13, think again mister!

6. you take care of your cats like they are your children, which makes me believe you will be a great Dad someday.

7. you use religious references in your spelling sentences at school on a regular basis, which is probably one of the only perks of sending you to a parochial school (kidding... but it is cute).

8. you were and are a blessing I could have never imagined.

Love you buddy.

Happy 8th Birthday!!

Love, Mommy
Mom (argh, you are already referring to me as just "Mom" and it's killing me, just so you know)

Friday Fragmentary Thinking

So much to say.

I just haven't been in the mood to write it down. Or have the time, really. It's been a crazy month, and June looks like it will be equally as crazy.

So this post is just a mish-mash of what's been going on in my head lately.

Yesterday, we went to the zoo for David's first grade class trip. It was great. Great weather, great time.

The coolest thing? The prairie dogs, the bears, the otters, the turtles, the cheetahs!... oh heck, just everything!  We'll be going back soon to see everything we missed.  It's hard to fit it all in with just a few hour window.

Pictures courtesy of my main man, S. who basically just followed the pack of Moms, Dads, and kids with my new camera.

Last week was David's 7th birthday party. This was the first party I had at a party "place" instead of at home. He had a great time. We had family and friends from school. I must admit I liked not having to cook or clean up. lol.

Can I express my frustation at that 47 year old "celebrity" who is pregnant? Should I comment that I am a little PO'ed that by not disclosing HOW she got pregnant is merely giving a bad education to women out there that think they can pop out babies into their late 40's? With their own body parts?  Who freakin' knows...maybe she is in the lucky .00005%.  I certainly made that percentage on the flip side of unluckiness.

Perhaps I should convert to scien.tology. There's one thing I haven't tried yet.

Lastly, but not leastly... who watched Grey's last night on the edge of their freaking seats?

And who's with me on Sunday watching THE LAST episode of LOST??? I am beyond sad to see this show end.  Prepare for some live tweeting and lots of tears on Sunday.

Seven

Last night was the eve of the last day of being six years old. As I put the little guy to bed, he said...

"Mommy, I am going to miss being six years old."

Me too, my love....

Me too.

Happy 7th Birthday David.   xoxoxo

Phil, my bestest buddy

You know what's the best thing about being born on Groundhog's Day?

One, everyone always has a good joke to tell me about Punxsutawney Phil (who by the way, saw his shadow today and we are in for 6 MORE weeks of winter).

Two, I have many Groundhog gifts I've received over the years, my favorite being the stuffed creature shown above.

Three, no one forgets to ask me, "Hey, have you seen that movie Groundhog's Day?"  and of course YES I HAVE.  Yes I have.  Yes I have.  Yes I have.

Oooops, seems things are repeating over and over, what gives?   Damn, I am a hoot.

Keen and longtime readers know how old I am today, and I care not to discuss it.  Of course if you are younger than me and haven't lost your vision yet (or are colorblind), the clue is above.

The best thing about today???  I got to see my son give a presentation at school in front of a crowd of people and students, and HE DID IT!  He gave a speech about what he would like to be when he grows up, and my Dad will be happy to know he chose an Engineer"Because I want to build things like my Pop Pop, and be THE BOSS."  I giggled so loudly I almost fell out of my mini-chair.

You rock, my boy!

And to top the day off, the Lost premier is tonight!!!  Admittedly, I am one of those geeks that have found sick pleasure in micro-examining the plot twists since 2003.  I am sad to see the series ending, but I am SO EXCITED to watch tonight.  Who's with me???!

It's a great day.  And it's not even noon yet.

Last day of school, and a surprise.

David on his last day.

David's last day of Kindergarten is today. Did that go fast or what? It gets me misty-eyed, as I remember my own year of Kindergarten so fondly. There's no escaping it... he's a big boy now.

Over the weekend we had a little family party for David's birthday. He had so much fun he slept until 9am on Sunday (unheard of in this house)! In fact, we spent much of the day Sunday recuperating from a busy weekend.

David and "the cake".

Not much else to report, except to say you'll want to stay tuned to my blog this week.

Why? Well, I'm hosting my first official giveaway, and I know you all will enter, won't you??? You won't want to miss it. The retail value is a staggering $400.

I'm no joke.

My darling boy

Today you are SIX. ...Six? How is that possible?

Each year you grow taller and smarter. And further away from the baby I remember.

Once you had to look up to see the beauty of the world.

Now, you run though it.

Happy Birthday my dear son... always my miracle.

And so begins my 41st year on earth

I actually have a rather meaty donor update for a change.

Donor had her Day 3 blood work and ultrasound yesterday, which went "fabulous" according to Nurse T. That means the uterus is looking fine, and the antral count, well, quite suitable and plentiful for a 22 year old.

Can we stop for a moment and reflect on the fact that I may be receiving eggs from someone TWENTY years younger than me? Ok... 19. I don't want to age myself that much.

Yes, my 41st birthday was yesterday. But between us, I'm calling myself 39 again. lol.

So now we await the results from the infectious disease screening this week, and if that's good we pass the second hurdle. Last mandatory step is her psych evaluation in two weeks, and if that hurdle is cleared too, she can begin meds.

From my end? I am to start BCP's in a few days.

And wait.

[insert crickets chirping here]

lol.

It's interesting to view an DE IVF cycle from the recipient's perspective. I'm just waiting by the phone. A whole lot of nuthin' going on.

Except, my weight that is. I'm down another 2 pounds this week, for a total of 17!

Now, THAT is exciting.

One Hand

Today, my little guy is 5 years old.

The time has passed so quickly. All of a sudden you somehow emerged from being a toddler to being a perfect little boy.

"If only we could clone you..." as Daddy would say.

Amen.
